Welcome to the Hot Springs Village Lakes!   There are 11 beautiful recreational lakes available for your use.

This document provides general information and addresses certain important rules and regulations.  All applicable federal, State of Arkansas and Hot Springs Village regulations apply to boating and fishing on HSV lakes. Additional information on the Village and its lakes can be found at the websites hsvlakes.com and explorethevillage.com.

Power boats are welcome on all lakes except Lake Segovia.  Only electric trolling motors are permitted on Segovia.  Unpowered boats which include kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, and paddle boards are welcome on all recreational lakes.

Prohibited types of Watercrafts: Personal Watercraft (Jet Skis); houseboats; any type of vessel with a bathroom; wake boats with filled ballast; any boat with a device or augmentation intended to generate or shape wakes, and any watercraft over 28 feet in length (power or sail).

Towing, Tubing and Skiing – Water Sport Activities: Water sport activities (skiing, tubes, knee boards) are only permitted on Lakes Balboa, Coronado, Cortez and DeSoto.  Tubing is allowed in the main body of Lake Granada.  Boats and towable devices must Keep a minimum distance of 100 feet from the shoreline and docks. At all times, the area within 100 feet of the shore is a NO WAKE zone – this zone does not need to be marked by buoys.  Water sports should only be conducted in designated areas.  On lakes where water sport activities are permitted, the towing boat must travel in a counterclockwise direction.  Boats towing people on water skis, tubes, knee boards or similar devices must stay in the main body of water and NOT ENTER COVES.  Towing water sports are permitted from ½ hour after sunrise until ½ hour before sunset.  Following behind a boat with a board or other device, without using a tow rope, is not permitted.

  • NO WAKE means a speed of 5MPH or lessNO WAKE zones are necessary for safety (protection of swimmers, non-powered boats such as kayaks and canoes, etc.), and to help prevent erosion of the lake shore and damage to docks.
  • Signage: At each lake you will find signage near the dock that includes Important general information and emergency numbers, and lake specific rules, such as maximum speed limits.

Buoys: Some HSV lakes utilize buoys, containing symbols and words, which provide information, restrictions and warnings.

Fishing: Rod and reel only.  People 16 years of age or older who wish to fish on Hot Springs Village lakes and creeks must have a valid Arkansas fishing license.

Beaches: There are two beaches, with roped-off swimming areas, in the Village: the first is a sandy beach located near the east end of Lake Balboa Dam.  It is located off Ponce DeLeon Drive.  The second beach is on Lake Coronado.  It is located off Murillo Way.  HSV beaches do not have lifeguards on duty.

Swimming: Swimming is permitted in HSV lakes within 100 feet of the shoreline.  Please use common sense and avoid swimming in public dock/ramp areas and near spillways. Swimming and wading are at your own risk.

Docks/Boat Launch: Non-resident launch fees apply in HSV.  Each lake that permits power boats has a collection/honor box at the ramp.  With the payment of the launch fee, you can obtain a day pass which must be displayed in the windshield of your vehicle.  There is no charge to launch unpowered boats which include kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, and paddle boards.  Each public dock/ramp has an associated parking area for vehicles and trailers.  Do not leave unattached boats or trailers in launching or parking areas; doing so inconveniences other boaters and can make it more difficult for emergency service access.  Boats departing from docks or ramps have the right of way over other watercraft within 100 feet of the dock or ramp. Boat launching and retrieval is at your own risk.

Weather: Lightning, strong winds, heavy rain, and large waves are examples of conditions that can make safety, control and docking considerably more difficult and dangerous.  Such conditions merit exiting the lake.  During periods of cooler weather, please take care to be aware of water temperatures.  Exposure to low water temperatures could result in hypothermia.

Boat Safety and Operator Requirements – General Comments: A person or persons being towed must each wear a US Coast Guard approved PFD - Personal Floatation Device.  Boats which are towing people on water skis, tubes, knee boards or other such devices must, in addition to the boat driver, have an observer over 12 years of age All boats must have one PFD - Personal Flotation Device - for each person on board plus one throwable device (a life ring, a throwable boat pillow, etc.).  Persons aged 12 and younger must wear their PFD – Personal Flotation Device - at all times while aboard a vessel.  Power boats must yield the right of way to sailboats under sail; sailboats do not have the same degree of directional control as motorized vessels.

State of Arkansas Operator Requirements:  Any motor boat operator born on, or after, January 1, 1986 must have earned 1) a boating education certificate showing successful completion of an approved Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGCF) safe boating course, or 2) a valid boating education certificate issued by another state that is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).  The requirement applies whether the operator is a resident or non-resident of Arkansas.

FUN!  SAFETY.  COURTESTY.  RESPONSIBILITY.
